We and our children had the great zechus to live in the same building in Yerushalayim as the Machlis family for 7 years. The extrordinary acts of chessed, tzidkus and ahavas yisrael radiating from the Machlis apartment were a true inspiration. They did what most people say "I would/should really do but cant..." Rebbetzin Machlis was a person that lived her life completely concerned with others. She was always, always giving - ruchniyus and gashmiyus, with all those around her, not just with the less fortunate but with anyone who had the zechus to come in contact with her. As neighbors we were always beneficiaries of their chesed and Torah and tried to reciprocate in a small way. She showered us with brachos and would always offer help and daven for her neighbors whenever we needed even a small thing. These noble qualities were absorbed by their children who each contain the unique quality of caring for others in a way that is clearly above the rest. While we learnt much Torah from Rabbi Machlis and consider ourselves talmidim, we are also talmidim of Rabbi and Rebbitzen Machlis in how to live life. Their respect and love for all Jews and all people no matter who they are or from what background is something we must all learn from. Rebbitzin Machlis was a true tzadekes whose every act and thought was lishem Shomayim. Yehi Zichra Baruch

    To Rav Machlis and Children,

This past week I learned that your wife and mother Henny has gone on to Shemayim, to be with Hashem in a new dimension. The news hit hard, and I can only imagine how much you miss her. Oh, for each of you to be deeply comforted by His Presence.

Here I was asking someone if they knew when the rabbi from Jerusalem would be speaking in Toronto, and then I heard. But I thought Henny was on the upswing, I believed she was going to pull through and be restored to full health in this life. And now your family is without her at your side.

That evening I slipped out early from amongst other guests, and walked home with tears and memories of this precious soul whose radiant joy and chesed touched so many of us. Today I ran into one of your local supporters, and he informed me that tomorrow would be Henny's Shloshim. How I wish I were there to be with you all in commemorating her life well lived.

No words are adequate to express how I feel, or how much gratitude and respect I have for Henny, for your family.

Having learned about the wonderful Chesed that Mrs Machlis and indeed your whole family has done, it was a sad blow to hear of her passing. She continues to inspire me to try harder. May Hashem grant you all comfort among the mourners of Tsion. May you find strength to continue your amazing work. With much love and admiration, Julie Handelman

I was so sad to hear about the passing of your dear wife and mother.
I still recall how kindly your family welcomed me into your home for a Friday night dinner many years ago. Your family's Hachnasat Orchim is simply remarkable! Your dear wife and mother was a true tzadekes, a selfless, joyful, loving soul who will be missed by so many whose lives she touched.

Rebbetzin Henny Machlis was the paradigm of Chesed and Ahavas Yisrael. The Machlis Mishpacha is an inspiration for all of Klal Yisrael. Thank you for opening your hearts and home for us. May you all have endless mazal, bracha, simcha, nachas, parnasa, Shalom, health and koach to do the incredible work you do.

Most of the beauty and connection I have to the mitzvah of Challah comes from the explanation Rebbetzin Machlis gave when I came to make Challah in her house.

HaMakom Yenacheim Eschem Bsoch Shaar Aveilei Tzion V'Yerushalayim.

May Rebbetzin Machlis be a meilitz yosher for all of Am Yisrael and for Shalom and the Geulah Shlaima now.

    Yehi Zichra Brucha.

We are deeply sorrowed by the news of Hennys',A"H, passing. The only thing that makes it bearable is the great joy she and her whole family ushered into our lives. We are grateful for the profound wisdom , kindness and cheer she so readily offered to us and to all. We dwell on those special memories as a source of comfort to us and countless others.
May you be comforted among all others who mourn in Zion.
