Again I had a wonderful experience at your house during the Erev Sukkot. As usual you hosted a diverse group of people with great hospitality. I felt a strong presence of the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit). I sent you already an extended report about this. I hope mrs Machlis recovered well.
I thank you and hope to see you again in near future. Shalom welitraot.

Thank you! Enough said? I dont think so. I model my Shabbat table around what lve learned from your house. Ive never had more than 50 but there isn't a Shabbos that goes by that isn't modelled around your hospitality. Please give our best to the beautiful Henny, may Hashem reward you with health till 120. Cant wait to come back.

Wow! I'm so happy to find this page. I was at The Machlis's many many times throughout my year I spent learning in The Holy City Jerusalem. One of the most wonderful experiences that still lingers with me today was at their home for Shabbos, How do I know? Because its been close to 9 years and remember vividly how everyone was treated with respect, it didn't matter who you were or from where you came from. The sensitivity, singing, Holliness, wisdom, love are engraved in me. I lived really close to their home and was there frequently for meals many times just to see so many diff people from many walks of life harmoniously feeling a Shabbos. There was no politics spoken at the home when I was there, just pure inspiration ( People get to share their experiences and get a chance to ask questions to the Rabbi. Rabbi Machlis says some words of Torah in english and in hebrew and everytime he switches the style not to bore those who understand both languages) As I sit here in my office near wall street soon to get married G-D willing, it would be my privilege to go back there for Shabbos meal with my wife. The amazing thing is that when people read this, one might think that the Rabbi knows me or knows me well. The Rabbi and his amazing Rebbitzen do not know me nor my name, they perhaps would recognize my face, however i wouldn't bet on it. If I was to show up now I would still feel close to him, their Shabbos meals resembles what Shabbos is suppose to be. The True Love of Shabbos and feeling closer to The Holy One.

Shalom, I visited with my friend Dov, The Shorashim Biblical Shop in the Old City today and asked him where I might learn/experience a Shabbat meal. He said I absolutely must contact you as Rabbi Mordecai Machlis opens his home for the Shabbat to anyone.

I would like to participate in a Shabbat meal/service before I depart Israel. Can you please tell me what time and address that the Shabbat meal/service is hosted?

You may reach me via email at rseals@cableone.net.

    Thank you very much. Shalom.

I do apologize that it has taken me so long to sign you guest book. I still speak very warmly about my experience even though it was almost 2½ years ago.

    Hi there,
I just found your visitcard that I got when I joined you for shabbath. I'm from Holland but living in Sweden. And with a couple of friends from Sweden we joined you at the sabbath. I had been dreaming of going to Israel for 30 years. When I finally got there it felt right away like coming home. Then when we went to your sabbath feast I was sooooo overwelmed8-0! It was fantastic! it was like getting a little taste of heaven here on earth. I wish you and your family lots of Blessing, health and strength and wisdom! Theo:-)

During my three-month volunteering stay in Jerusalem, I have been to Machlises several times. Each visit was unique, and I believe, of everything that happenned to me in Jerusalem, these visits and rabbi's teachings have touched and transformed my heart the most.

I consider myself blessed to have shared the table with such wonderful hosts. They showed me God's heart. May love and prosperity always be in this home.

    Hello friends from afar!
I can't believe I just stumbled across this website. I finally have a chance to thank you for your shabbos meals! Last year I was in Israel as a seminary girl and finding a host every week can be stressful, but you guys (every member of the family) has made it simple and even welcoming! I want to thank you again for not only have you provided me with a shabbos table, I have also met many ppl from all sorts of backgrounds that have inspired me (mostly the ones who are struggling but keep on going). Lets not forget the d'vrei torah said that hit home every time. I pray for your continued success to help b'nei yisroel and that one day, maybe I too can follow in your foot steps and have a home of my own to welcome in others.
Thank you! Much continues hatzlacha and siyata dishmaya!

Last Saturday, my wife, daughter and I went for a walk around Jerusalem. Since this was our first visit to the city, we were a little bit lost and we had just started to look for a place to eat lunch.

We happened to meet you while crossing a street and, although you were surrounded by a large number of people, you reached out to greet us and invited us to your home for lunch and to celebrate the Sabbath. We couldn't resist the invitation, of course. ;)

It was an amazing sight to see so many people singing, eating and chatting together in between the various teachings. Although I felt a little self-conscious (since everything about the meal, the people and the celebration itself was so new to me), I really enjoyed the time and the teachings were particularly interesting. My wife and daughter also had a great time. In fact, my daughter was really excited to make a new friendship with a young girl named Rachel.

It has been a few days since we made it back home, but we have talked quite a bit amongst ourselves and with our friends about your generosity and kindness.

Thank you so much for welcoming us into your home!

The Chassidic giants at their "tish" taught us the great spiritual power of the food on a Tzadik's table . During years of painful disappointments, I experienced Rav & Rebbitzin Machlis' Shabbes Table many times . Thanks to Hashem, I benefited from Rav Machlis' consistent graciousness & many "brochos", so now happy times are here again. Both here in Jerusalem and abroad, I meet many people who speak of the unique and lasting impact of this man's very personal Torah teaching. May we all be worthy of this Tzaddik?s presence amongst us .

we are two females (age 27 and 24) who are currently doing an internship in Tel Aviv. We are not Jewish, but we are very interested in the Jewish religion. That is why we would like to spend a Shabbat with a Jewish host family. We have been contacting an agency which places only Jewish people within host families but they recommended us your website. We would be glad if there is any possibility to spend this Shabbat with hosts. If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to contact me via e-mail (silviahaselhuhn@aol.com)at any time.

We would be glad about any kind of information. Looking forward to your response.

    Rabbi Machlis,
I was recently in Jerusalem with my family. My son, Yigdal Moshe 8yo and my daughter, Yocheved 5yo, were in Israel for the first time. When we arrived in the Holy City I told my son how much I look forward to davening with you at the Kotel on Shabbos morning.
As we were walking to the Kotel we ran into a nice man named Gerald. He told me he also davens with the "Rabbi from America". In fact he ended up leading the services on that Shabbos.
I haven't had the Zchus and opportunity to celebrate the Shabbos in your home but the Kiddush and the D'Var Torah that you offer at the Kotel is very educational, inspiring and heartwarming. I want to take this opportunity and donate a bit of money to you so that I can personally help you continue to offer the Kiddush and Shabbos Lunches and inspiring and educational teachings that you offer to those who spend time with you.
You are an inspiration to those who meet you and spend even one minute with you.
I pray I will see you again in Israel.

    Our dear ones: (Shetichyu)

It was a plasure tu speak with you (Henny) by telephone. It gives so much joy to hear you and to know how your Chessed and Orchim is improving and increasing.

It is such a Zechus to know you, be your friend and also to be working at your home - I know it was like 20 years ago, but, I remember that and I aprecciate it with very warm feelings.

Thank you for everything, maybe you don't have the idea how much you have helped me to have a better aproach about Judaism, people, Yerushalaim, and love ---- a lot, really, thank you for being with me, for giving me the oportunity of being part of such a special family.

    Y'shar Koach! Jazakim Uberuchim!

Hashem shall bless you with all the Brochos that you give to the other (it's great your messages in your answering machine), and with all the Brochos from the Torah. He shall accomplish for the best all the desires of your heart, and He shall help you to be allways in the way of Chessed, like you do, and more each day.

    Aug 01, 2008 DE

    Dear Rabbi Machlis,

maybe you remember me: I am Manfred who visited your Shiur on tuesday and sunday during my time in Jerusalem from January till March. I will allways remember your hospitality in your house and especially the wedding in the rooms of the Great Synagogue with the 1800 guests. You and your family are very special in a very positive sense.
I am now a catholic parish priest (leader of a christian community in a 120 000 city town called Goettingen). We have good connections to the jewish community here.

I remember especially the Shiur after the killing of the students of the Jeshiva in Jerusalem. I felt your pain and I was very convinced from the way you talked about this human tragedy: great emphasis for the victims on the one side but also to keep away from blind hate on the other side. I think it was not easy for a jew (who was at the place only minutes before...) to keep the balance between the two sides: solidarity with the victims and their families and to be free from hate. This was a very big lesson for me!

All the best! May G'd bless you and your family!

Back in 2000-2 I was living in Jerusalem and was blessed to share Shabbat in your lovely home on Fri Nights. I always pray for you and your family.I am a New Covenant Jew who experienced being healed from death back in 1982, had many visions and dreams - like what was prophesied in the Book of Joel.
The Orthodox Jews- the Levites and Cohanes are my close relatives- being a Levite myself. My maternal Gandfather was a Cantor from Kiev, Russia, and my great paternal grandfather started a Synagogue in the Boston area.
I am so happy that you have continued in your hospitality and are safe!!!!!!

    Dear Rabbi Machlis & family,

My husband, daughter & I spent our first day in Jerusalem with you. We were at the same Shabbat lunch as Simcha and his fiance. I am the child of 2 Holocaust survivors and the director of a Holocaust education center in Rochester, N.Y. and was in Jerusalem to present a workshop at a conference at Yad Vashem. My father grew up in a Chassidic family in Poland and though he chose not to raise his family in a religious way, he always told stories of how his father invited strangers to their home every Shabbat. Thank you for allowing my family to travel in time and live in the stories my father, of blessed memory, shared with me.

Dear Rabbi Mordechai and Henny Machlis:

I read about your incredible kindness toward your fellow Jews in the book by Sara Yocheved Rigler. It is truly amazing that you open your home and your hearts to so many Jews on Shabbos and during the week and that you are so incredibly caring that you help the Jews that every one else shuns, like the homeless and the mentally ill.

Your commitment to living the Jewish ideals in all its aspects is wonderful. I have no idea how you balance your full-time chesed with your fourteen children, but I admire you and thank you for your kindness.
Your story was amazingly inspiring to me and is motivating me to show more kindness to fellow Jews in need.

    Sincerely,
